Shipt App Store Screens Redesign
Shipt is a membership-based grocery marketplace, providing same-day grocery shopping and delivery services. I redesigned Shipt’s app store screens to better communicate Shipt values.

PROJECT TYPE
Individual Project
Design the App store screens to better communicate Shipt values
USERS & NEEDS
Who are our potential users and what are their needs?
USER RESEARCH PLAN
Two groups of users
In order to understand the key value propositions we should emphasize in our App store screenshots, I conducted surveys and interviews with the following two groups of users.
Non-Members
Figure out what stops them from trying out Shipt and what could help them decide
Shipt’s Heavy Users
Figure out what they love about Shipt and how they would describe it
RESEARCH TAKEAWAYS
The reason Non-members haven’t used Shipt is…
NOT because they prefer other online grocery delivery services
BUT because they prefer going to physical grocery stores
They prefer going to physical grocery stores because…
They think using an online service is complicated
They are used to going to their favorite local stores
They don’t know if they can trust shoppers
On the other hand,
the top 3 things Shipt's heavy users like about Shipt are…
I like Shipt because this app is very intuitive to use, even for the middle-aged man like me.
I usually go Publix and Gordon for shopping and Shipt has all those local stores I like.
Shipt shoppers are very friendly and helpful. They keep me up to date on everything.
They say the 3 best words to describe Shipt are…
SOLUTIONS
So, what if we...
Show how easy and intuitive it is to use the Shipt app
Show that Shipt
already has their
favorite local stores
Show our shoppers engaging with users
to build trust
Rather than focusing on differentiating Shipt from other existing services, I decided to emphasize that Shipt can provide a familiar but more convenient grocery shopping experience
MORE RESEARCH
Competitive Analysis & Design Sprint
I printed competitor app store screens and grouped them based on their visual layouts.
Then I asked our designers to share what they liked and disliked about each design.
Design Concept Boards
Based on takeaways from the sprint, I made a design concept board of background textures, text, and images. I also kept Shipt’s propositions – Friendly, Clean, and Safe – in mind to be consistent with company’s existing designs.
